Album Review: Principe Valiente With "In This Light"

This enigmatic duo are experts at creating ambient soundscapes and progressive songs that keep you hooked throughout.

Stockholm based Principe Valiente sprung onto the alternative scene in 2011 with a dark and ambient sound. The band has recently taken a more direct pop aproach while maintaining that dark synth sound that they have become known for. Jimmy Ottosson (Guitar) and Fernando Honorato (Vocals) return in 2024 with a ten track album called "In This Light"

The album begins with a cinematic synth piece that builds the tension and draws you in before seemlessly transitioning into the next song "Silent Dreamer" which features a distorted driving bassline and a huge drum sound. The third track "Inspired By Me" was one of the lead singles of the album and opens with Fernando's enigmatic vocals expertly portraying the emotion of the song. When the bass ostinato enters the sonic landscape you can't help but tap your foot.

"Something New" has more of a classic pop sound, driven by an ascending guitar riff harmonised by a creative bass guitar pattern. This song has a remeniscent feel and really transports you to another place.

This album has the perfect blend of unique, progressive synth ambience and catchy pop lines that anyone can appreciate. A true musical masterpiece from two extremely talented musicians and songwriters.
