Marcelo has written the scores for multiple short films, most notably "Imagine If Black Boys Just Smiled At Each Other" which won Best Short Film at Boundless Film Festival in 2023.
"Imagine If Black Boys Just Smiled At Each Other" questions the difficulty that men in the black community face when greeting each other in public. Sometimes there is a sense of community and love when greeting each other with a smile, but other times there is defensiveness and animosity as the two men may view each other as a threat.
The score perfectly accompanies the spoken word in this piece with suspenseful synths to represent the feelings of anger, and lighter major harmonies when the topic changes to feelings of community and love. The music comes to a climax of soaring synths with a positive major sound when the narrator says the title of the film before returning to dramatic suspenseful piano as the film moves to interviews of black men sharing their experiences.
