Catchy and relatable, this banger is everything you're looking for if you love indie rock!
Father and son duo, Paul and James share the songwriting equally in Mercurius, and like to make each of their songs unique by tackling a range of styles. The duo changed their name to Mercurius in 2023, due to feedback from fans that their previous name "James and Paul" wasn't particularly interesting.
Streetlights opens with a sparkling guitar melody accompanied by a driving bass and drum pattern before the commanding vocals begin the first verse. The song explodes into the chorus with a soaring lead guitar and perfectly balanced harmonies. There are two voices throughout this track, with Jasmine Crichton on guest vocals. This gives the song the feeling of a duetted love ballad which really elevates the emotion of the lyrics for a truly thought provoking experience. The song ends with gentle synths fading into the distance and an echoing vocal from Jasmine repeating the lyric "Don't leave me here alone".
Mercurius are definitely ones to watch in the modern indie scene, with a very unique sound and bright future ahead.
